Dr. Matthew Walenski has a background in cognitive neuroscience and linguistics. His primary research interests concern the co-dependence of memory and language, which he has investigated using methods from linguistics, psychology, and cognitive neuroscience. He has also approached these issues from the perspective of patient populations with adult-onset (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease, Schizophrenia) or developmental (e.g., Autism, Tourette’s) disorders. Cross-language comparisons, aimed at uncovering universals of language that relate to universals of memory, also form an important component of his research approach, and have so far included aspects of language processing in English, Japanese, and Italian.
